UPES stands for University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. UPES is a university of tomorrow situated in Dehradun. UPES Dehradun has two campuses i.e., UPES Bidholi and UPES Kandoli. The UPES University is known for its academic excellence in the field of education, offering a diverse range of courses in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in the field of Engineering, Management, Designing, Health Sciences and more.  

It was founded in 2003 by the UPES Act of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. 

UPES University is NAAC accredited with ‘A’ grade and a CGPA of 3.02. UPES has ranked NO.1 Private University in Academic Reputation in India by QS World University Rankings 2025 and also ranks 148th in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025. It ranks 21st in Southern Asia and 12th in India by QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 and ranks 239 globally in the Engineering and Technology category while debuted at 312 globally in the Social Sciences and Management category by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. 

NIRF (National Institute of Ranking and Framework) ranked UPES at 46th position among universities in India, Law is ranked at 43 while Management and Engineering ranked at 41 and 42 respectively. UPES University ranked 4th and 3rd in the North Zone among the private universities by BW Legal Rankings 2024. The university is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), Bar Council of India, Pharmacy Council of India and more.

There is a mandatory summer internship in UPES for all graduate and postgraduate students. These internships help the students to better understand the working environment of the companies. The internship lasts from eight weeks to six months. The university ensures that all the students will get this summer internship from the university end. 

The university works on 3Es for the placement training i.e., Exampathways, Employability and Entrepreneurship. They train the students with pre interviews, guest lectures, LinkedIn profile classes and more. There is an EDGE (Enhanced Development Growth and Enrichment Program) platform in the university which overlooks all these training measures to make them future ready for the industrial world. Admission and Scholarships

• The admissions are based on merits, other competitive exams and UPES entrance exam.
• There are only 25% seats reserved on the basis of direct admissions.
• The candidate must be eligible to pursue a desired course. He/she must check the eligibility criteria before applying.
• A candidate can apply in UPES through online or offline mode.
• There is a 4 steps registration process followed with basic information, payment process, academic details and other details.
• Students can apply through the examination or non-examination mode and some courses have personal interview rounds too. 
• The scholarships are based on Entry Level Scholarship (Merit Scholarship), Domicile, Jyoti Scholarship (EWS), Vijay Scholarship (Sports Scholarship) , Alumni Scholarship, Scholarship for International Students, Special Scholarship for MBA Scholarship and more.
• 25% scholarship on the basis of domicile and it is applicable on the Global Pathway Program as well.
• 10-30% scholarships on the merits and other competitive exams. 
• The scholarship is applicable on first year tuition fees only.
• A candidate can avail only one highest scholarship.
• Special 25 seat reservation for wards of Armed Forces including Paramilitary personnel including serving and retired. 
• There is first-cum-first-serve scholarship of 10% in Liberal studies up to the first 100 admissions and 30% scholarship up to the first 30 admissions in the B.Tech (Mathematics and Computing) program.
•  The MBA scholarship is based on first-cum-first serve and will be limited up to 100 only.
• UPES offers 100% scholarship under Jyoti Scholarship. It’s for under-priviledged meritorious students.
• There are 51 seats for Jyoti Scholarship students and the family income must not exceed 8 lakhs from all sources.
• Vijay Scholarship or Sports Scholarship varies from 35-100% for National and International players in the field football, cricket, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, shooting, chess, athletic, boxing, wrestling and archery.
